kickstart2employment (k2e) and gap personnel have launched a unique programme for employers operating in North Wales that will boost training and employment opportunities across the region.
Through this unique collaborative approach, k2e and gap are developing fully managed, on-site training academies to develop the skills of workers in the region. The programme has been designed to align with the Economic Action Plan for North East Wales and the North Wales Growth Bid, with a focus on the Pathways to Skills and Employment.
Five training academies are currently in operation in North East Wales with some of the UK’s most recognised brands, including Great Bear Distribution Deeside (part of the Culina Group), Ardagh Group Wrexham and Wholebake Wrexham & Corwen in association with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai College.
The programmes are mapped into the learners’ roles prior to commencement of training to ensure relevance and minimise disruption to work schedules. The ultimate aim is to inspire and motivate adult learners to re-engage with education and training.
Having trialled the scheme at Great Bear Distribution Deeside, the Operations Manager at the site, Dave Hughes, said:
“Having a single point of contact to support us with our staffing and training needs is really useful. The onsite delivery makes training accessible to all staff whilst minimising disruption to productivity.”
Over 200 learners have enrolled on programmes to date in subject areas ranging from warehousing and logistics to business improvement techniques and manufacturing. Commenting on the successful launch of this unique provision, Director of kickstart2employment, Julian Hughes said:
“Operating as part of the gap personnel group of companies enables us to offer a unique proposition for employers. Our tailored onsite provision enables us to take training opportunities to the learner so we can maximise staff performance whilst minimising disruption to work schedules. This approach fulfils the needs of employers and works to remove barriers to education and training.”
k2e has recently won a tender worth £1million per year to deliver skills training in Liverpool City Region for up to three years, as part of a wider training consortium. Julian continued:
“Following successes in North Wales and Merseyside, we are able to demonstrate without doubt our ability to deliver training and employment opportunities across the Northern Powerhouse region. This is an exciting time for k2e and we are keen to develop further cross-border collaboration. This can only be enhanced by the Government’s investment in the North Wales Metro concept, which aims to promote integrated transport links and improved digital connectivity in the North.”
gap personnel operates as part of the Trust Tech Group, a global human resources and staffing provider with revenues exceeding £500 million. gap provides a contemporary recruitment solution to companies operating across UK and Europe. Commenting on the latest collaboration with its training provider, k2e, Gary Richards, Operations Director said:
“gap has always strived to be more than just a recruitment agency. We provide clients with added value and a ‘one-stop-shop’ approach by delivering a fully managed staffing and training solution. We operate from 50 locations across England and Wales and, whilst this programme has been launched in North Wales, we are keen to offer the same provision to companies across the UK to address the national skills gap and prepare for the challenges posed by a post-Brexit economy.”
Reflecting on the success of the onsite training academies, Julian Hughes concluded:
“The level of interest and support received from the companies with which we are currently working has been exceptional. By working collaboratively, I believe we have succeeded in raising the profile of education and training within their organisations, which will no doubt yield greater efficiencies and job satisfaction in the future”.
