kickstart2employment, one of the UK’s fastest growing fully managed training companies, has partnered with the Preston-based social welfare charity, Recycling Lives, to deliver a unique and innovative training provision.
In the UK today, there is a substantial shortage of professional LGV drivers. The current demand for 60,000 drivers is set to rise to 150,000 by 2020 post Brexit. k2e has been pioneering a suite of bespoke training programmes in partnership with a number of high profile employers in an attempt to address this shortfall.
k2e has worked with Recycling Lives to create a tailored driver training programme that aligns with the charity’s mission to increase social value through activities aimed at reducing reoffending and supporting homeless men. Recycling Lives is an award-winning waste management service provider and charity that offers disadvantaged people a six-stage programme of accommodation, training, education and work experience, guaranteeing them permanent employment and accommodation of their own.
This training provision will give 12 candidates the opportunity to achieve the Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard in LGV over a 12 to 15-month period. Following a blended learning approach, candidates will be required to complete a programme of self-directed study, on the job training, workshops and practical modules. Candidates will also work towards their class 2/1 licences and relevant CPC whilst completing the apprenticeship programme. On successful completion of the course, they will be suitably qualified and skilled to secure a career in the transport and logistics industry as drivers of large goods vehicles.
